American Might And Pharaoh

All Praise and Thanks are due to Allah Almighty for guiding us into this and had it not been for the guidance of Allah, we would have never been guided.

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

So Abu-Jahl is flexing his muscles again! Well he can. It is called the American Might!!! This whole scenario is very much reminiscent of Pharaoh and his companions Haman and Qaroon.

I must thank Allah (S.W.T.) first and foremost for guiding us into the most beautiful book that ever existed on earth, His Book, The Qur'an. Had it not been for that glorious Book we would indeed be lost and not be able to understand. To visit the past is to understand the present and to plan for the future. For there are lessons to be learned from the stories Allah has foretold in His book.

The world has always contained tyrants and oppressors. Pharaoh stands at the very top. Allah preserved his body as a sign to those who reflect and think. The Pharaoh elevated himself in the land and broke up its people into factions. He claimed sovereignty over the land, oppressed and enslaved the weak. He killed innocent men out of fear and anger, and was bloodthirsty and power-hungry. He exceeded the limits. Pharaoh was unjust and wicked. He went to the extent of claiming lordship over his people. He truly believed in himself and thought that he was god. He plotted and planned. But God had a different plan. He wished to be gracious to those who were being oppressed. Allah wanted to honor them and make them leaders and heirs. He in His own infinite wisdom raised an enemy of Pharaoh in his very own household named Musa (A.S.). As he began his mission, Musa was accused of spreading mischief in the land. He produced nine signs by Allah's leave before Pharaoh and his chiefs. He was called a magician. In the end it took an act of God for Pharaoh to believe in the Lord of Musa and Haroon. But it was a little too late. His repentance was rejected and Allah is determined to make him taste the worst of the punishments. "The fire; they shall be brought before it (every) morning and evening; and (the Sentence will be) on the Day that Judgment will be established: “Cast ye the People of Pharaoh into the severest Penalty!” (Qur'an 40:46)

That was the Pharaoh of the past in comparison to the Pharaoh of the present. Then, it was Pharaoh, Haman and Qaroon. Today it is George, Don and Dick. Is there any difference?

Allah saved Musa and his Ummah. It didn't take his Ummah much to rebel against their savior Allah Almighty. From the worship of the golden calf to the rejection of Allah's commands to the killings of Allah's prophets to selling His book for a petty price, they surely brought the wrath of their Lord upon themselves and in that there is a lesson for us. “If only they had stood fast by the Torah, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There is from among them a party on the right course: but many of them follow a course that is evil.” (Al-Ma'idah 5:66)

Finally let us invoke the same prayer that Musa did (you may want to replace the name of Pharaoh by our Texan friend):

"Moses prayed: "Our Lord! You have indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his Chiefs splendor and wealth in the life of the Present, and so, Our Lord, they mislead (men) from Your Path. Deface, Our Lord, the features of their wealth, and send hardness to their hearts, so they will not believe until they see the grievous Penalty." (Qur'an 10:88)

Ameen Ya Rabal-'Alameen,

Wassalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Best Regards,

Dr. Malahat Qureshi
